WEDDING READING OPTIONS
I usually have two wedding readings within the wedding ceremonies that I write. I like to include one in the beginning that works well with the couples love story and another right after the vows, to give the couple a moment to gather themselves again; vows are emotional!!
So, here are 3 of my favorite wedding readings for you:
Love Lives; John Clare (1793-1864)
Love lives beyond
The tomb, the earth, which fades like dew.
I love the fond,
The faithful, and the true
Love lives in sleep,
The happiness of healthy dreams
Eve’s dews may weep,
But love delightful seems.
‘Tis heard in spring
When light and sunbeams, warm and kind,
On angels’ wing
Bring love and music to the mind.
And where is voice,
So young, so beautiful and sweet
As nature’s choice,
Where Spring and lovers meet?
Love lives beyond
The tomb, the earth, the flowers, and dew.
I love the fond,
The faithful, young and true.
To be one with each other; George Eliot (1819-1880)
What greater thing is there for two human souls than to feel that they are joined together to strengthen each other in all labour, to minister to each other in all sorrow, to share with each other in all gladness, to be one with each other in the silent unspoken memories.
From The Irrational Season – Madeleine L’Engle
But ultimately there comes a moment when a decision must be made. Ultimately two people who love each other must ask themselves how much they hope for as their love grows and deepens, and how much risk they are willing to take. It is indeed a fearful gamble. Because it is the nature of love to create, a marriage itself is something which has to be created, so that, together we become a new creature.
To marry is the biggest risk in human relations that a person can take. If we commit ourselves to one person for life this is not, as many people think, a rejection of freedom; rather it demands the courage to move into all the risks of freedom, and the risk of love which is permanent; into that love which is not possession, but participation. It takes a lifetime to learn another person. When love is not possession, but participation, then it is part of that co-creation which is our human calling, and which implies such risk that it is often rejected.
Your wedding day officially begins when the ceremony kicks off! Let's make sure your ceremony sets the tone for your wedding day.
Your wedding ceremony should remind people why your standing there on your wedding day professing your love and vowing to stick with each other. Your wedding ceremony needs to share a bit of your love story and remind your guests all the reasons you chose each other.
Let your guests fall in love with you all over again (or for the first time). One way to do this is to throw away the notion that you should not show emotion during your ceremony or being overly worried about crying. Your emotions are running high on your wedding day and your guests kind of expect you to laugh, cry or smile during your ceremony.
So be you, set the tone for your wedding day by shining a light on who you are during your wedding ceremony.
The Holly Vault Chapel
Intimate, Micro and elopement packages now available!
The Holly Vault in downtown Holly has opened the doors to their Holly Vault Chapel and it is wonderful!
I had the pleasure of performing an elopement or intimate wedding recently for a beautiful couple. They chose to get married in Michigan just the two of them, their children, her sister and a photographer. That's it! Keeping it simple allowed them to truly enjoy the day.
After the wedding ceremony they headed to celebrate over dinner.
Remember planning a wedding does not have to be hard or stressful. Wether you chose to elope, plan a micro or intimate wedding ceremony I can make sure the ceremony itself is personal and written to highlight your story and we can always keep it short and simple.
How to have the wedding of your dreams on any budget
All of these kinds of weddings really mean the same thing. It is a smaller wedding where the focus of your wedding is on the two of you getting married. Keeping the guest list short, it can be the two of you and your two witnesses or maybe just your closest community of people.
Planning a micro or intimate wedding is meant to be super easy and stress free. Here is how to plan your perfect small wedding:
I say anything under 20 is totally doable on a small wedding budget. Once you breach 20 you need to look at larger venues and dining costs really start to rise.
There are a lot of options when it comes to celebrating your marriage. You can keep it simple and bring along some cupcakes and champagne. You can decide to celebrate over brunch, lunch or dinner. Or you can keep it super simple and do a ceremony only. There are a lot of options for dining, it just depends on your budget.
Now that you know how many people and what you will be doing you can decide on a location. The simplest is a free park to perform the ceremony - no chairs, no decor just show and get hitched - kinda like a pop up wedding. You can amp up the romance and reserve a gazebo at a local park. Or if your celebrating with food many restaurants offer a back room or banquet room to use for a simple 10 minute ceremony for free as long as your dining with them.
You've got your guest list, your location and what you will (or will not be serving) down for your intimate wedding. Now let's talk dates. If you choose a weekday (Monday through Wednesday) chances are very high that you can have your pick of any wedding venue in the state of Michigan - not many couples are getting married on Tuesday at noon - and with a small guest list - you can totally ask people to take a afternoon off of work to celebrate you!
It is so important to enter your marriage as a healthy individual but also as a couple with the same common goal - to succeed in marriage! It's a wonderful idea to talk through some of the things that life will throw at you, so that when they happen you are ready and able to tackle it together.
I met Renee and she is a warm and lovely person, I highly recommend you give her a call to discuss Pre-Marital classes.
For $500 you are provided:
-the space for your ceremony
-my services as your officiant
-bouquet and boutonnière
-dinner for two with champagne or wine
*you can add dinner for any additional guests
The Holly Hotel is a upscale restaurant rich in history and the setting is warm and romantic. Kate is their event coordinator and she is such a kind person, sure to help you with all the details of your day.
Simply call Holly Hotel to reserve your date and they will hire me and I'll be in touch with you shortly to talk through the details of the ceremony and the day.
Now, can we talk about her dress and floral crown! I mean look at her joy - you can see it! Such a beautiful couple, inside and out.
I met a lovely couple inside where we grabbed a coffee and sweet treat and performed our Justice of the Peace Signing Ceremony. With their son by their side and two witnesses looking on they were joined in marriage!
I am available to perform valentines day elopement ceremonies and signings.
The week of valentines is already filling up with elopements at Holly Hotel and maybe even the new Holly Vault Chapel. Why not get hitched on a day filled with love and celebrated with joy!

All Saints Chapel in Howell Michigan Wedding Elopement
First let me tell you a bit about this chapel. It is originally built in the 1800's and it is beautiful on the inside and out. The wonderful coordinator was great to work with. She assisted with streaming the music, getting the processional in order and sending people down the aisle. Not every wedding venue offers a coordinator, so this was a great service to have, it truly makes the day so much easier to enjoy.
